Olympus Pen EE. Pen EE is a humble, no-nonsense camera, cute as a puppy. Made in the early 60's it stands in between the later, smart point and shoot cameras and the early dumb cameras. Lightweight 360 gr but feels right to its size. A nice touch is the way the camera name is marked, protruding rather than embossed, and the back-cover latch.

The Olympus Pen EE-3 is one of the over-looked and under-appreciated models. Also, a fun fact: "EE" stands for "Electric Eyes".

The Olympus Pen EE was the first automatic camera in the Pen line to come out in 1961 to a point and shoot type of audience and started a whole new line for the Pen cameras. The no frills camera The Olympus Pen EE was the first Pen camera to be fully automated, making use of the selenium cell that surrounded the lens.

Olympus Pen EE Vintagelens
The original PEN EE when launched in 1961 was arguably ground breaking as one of the first true point and shoots with automatic metering. Our updated EE-2 was launched in 1968. Both share the same 28mm 1:3.5 D.Zuiko 4 element lens (equivalent to ~40mm full frame) but the EE-2 adds a hot shoe, better ISO range and an updated exposure system.

The original Pen was introduced in 1959, the version I have (the PEN-EE) was introduced in 1961. It has a 28mm f/3.5 lens. That is equivelant to around 40mm on a full-frame camera. Look at that tiny little 22.5mm filter! It's a really compact camera, not much taller than a 35mm film roll.

The Pen EE-3 is a rugged little half-frame camera. Like all half-frame cameras, you get two pictures on a single 24 × 36 mm frame or, if your lab is generous, even two pictures on your print. The EE-3 is equipped with a fully-automatic exposure feature and the EE stands for Electronic Eye.
